2011 gmc yukon xl review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth and refined tow vehicle. introductionthe gmc yukon xl is a great choice for anyone towing cars, boats, horses, and travel trailers who needs enclosed space for passenger or cargo. maximum towing capacity ranges from 7800-8500 pounds for a yukon xl 1500 model, and about 9500 pounds on a yukon xl 2500. (subtract 1500-2500 pounds if the yukon is fully loaded with people and cargo.) with its long wheelbase and full-size truck construction, the yukon xl is a stable platform for towing while offering the interior cargo advantages of a full-size suv. the yukon line was completely redesigned for 2007. For 2011, yukon is not significantly changed, though it's been updated with the latest onstar version 9. 0. yukon xl is gmc's version of the chevrolet suburban. As the xl name suggests, the yukon xl is extra-long, 20 inches longer than the standard-length yukon. Like the suburban, the yukon xl seats seven to nine people, depending on configuration. While many vehicles will seat seven, few have so much room left over for cargo. yukon xl is offered in 1500 and 2500 versions. yukon xl is also available as a luxurious denali model that compares well to cadillac's escalade esv. Denali comes equipped with automatic rear load-leveling. inside is a comfortable cabin. We found the optional leather seats comfortable. The driver sits way up high for a commanding view of the road, and the pedals power-adjust to fit short and tall drivers. The instruments and gauges are among best in class, elegantly clean yet very functional. Interior small items storage is intelligently designed and all over, including a huge center console. second-row passengers will find a lot of leg room in the yukon xl. Heated bucket seats with a center console between them are available for the second row, turning them into first-class accommodations; and there is a power folding option, making it easier for third-row passengers to climb by. Dealers offer a host of dress-up items, including wheels up to 22-inches. The standard 17-inch wheels offer the best ride quality due to tires with tall sidewalls. Ride quality gets harsher as wheel diameters increase. the rear window opens separately, which is convenient for loading lighter bags and cargo. The larger liftgate is aluminum and balanced, upgradeable to power for those accustomed to a push-button world. Roof racks can carry unwieldly items that aren't too heavy, but be sure to load with the hatch open or after the cargo area is filled so the roof load doesn't interfere with the open hatch. interiorthe yukon xl is comfortable for long tows or major outings. The acadia is a crossover suv, meaning it looks like a truck but it has unibody construction like a car. crossovers have been gaining in popularity because they make so much sense for so many families, but what sets the acadia apart is its size: it's big, similar in size to the gmc yukon and chevy tahoe, inside and out. acadia can seat eight. And it can carry a lot of cargo. For starters, it's big and roomy. The driver sits high off the ground and benefits from that commanding view down the road that many like. Features like rear-seat dvd entertainment make it a good choice for families. the only places where the acadia falls short of truck-based suvs is in heavy-duty towing or for slogging through military-grade muck. Properly equipped, the gmc acadia can tow 5,200 pound, while a yukon is rated to pull 7,500 pounds or more. Based on the silverado pickup, the yukon can handle rugged terrain. It absorbs rough pavement in a soothing manner and takes corners reassuringly for such a large vehicle. It handles better and is smoother than a yukon and other truck-based suvs. Gmc's 288-horsepower 3. 6-liter v6 is smooth and sophisticated and supplies good acceleration performance. Its six-speed automatic transmission is responsive, smooth and efficient, further aiding fuel economy. three rows of seats provide room for seven or eight, though it's more comfortable with six. The gmc acadia shares its basic mechanical components with the buick enclave, chevrolet traverse, and saturn outlook. the exterior design team for the gmc acadia managed to give a relatively large vehicle a look that has moved away from bulky without sacrificing a kind of active grace. Happily, gmc has avoided the threatening-suv school of design that has been so popular. the rounded front end features a bright grille surround framing a prominent gmc emblem. The steering wheel tilts and telescopes, making it easy for drivers tall and short to get comfortable. As with any suv, the driver sits high, with a good view down the road. But visibility to the rear isn't great, requiring care when backing up. We recommend opting for ultrasonic rear park assist, which can detect objects out of the driver's line of sight.
